"Michikusa" is an animated allegory set in a surreal and hellish landscape made of skin and bone. Man and nature battle for dominance in the unending cycle life and death - or something in between.
About Nalani Williams
Nalani is an award winning animator and director based in Los Angeles. She received a BFA in animation from the School of Visual Arts and her work has been featured on a number of high profile commercial and TV projects including Honda, Ted Lasso, Fisher Price, Netflix and Spotify. Notably, she directed and animated music videos for Domino Kirke, The Stone MGs and Boris.
Nalani creates an otherworldly aesthetic by meticulously integrating miniature landscapes with stop motion and hand painted animation. Abstract in context and expressionistic in style, Nalani makes highly personal and conceptual work that, like a painting, remains open to interpretation
The music video Mercy, which she directed and animated, is currently being shown at festivals around the world, winning the Grand Jury Prize at the Nitehawk Shorts Festival, Best animation and music video at Female Filmmakers Berlin, Best music video at the Lisbon Cinefest, and Best Music Video at the Monthly Indie Shorts Festival.
About Boris
Formed back in 1992, Japanese, experimental heavy rock outfit Boris ((ボリス, Borisu) — currently core members Takeshi (vocals, bass, guitar), Wata (vocals, guitar, keys, accordion and echo) Atsuo (vocals, drums, percussion and electronics) with Mucho (drums) — settled on their current lineup in 1996. Since then, the members of Boris have tirelessly explored their own genre-defying take on heavy music.
